Oh, nearly forgot – while on our walk yesterday we stumbled across a Nightjar! This difficult to spot migratory bird which spends its winter in africa is a ground nesting bird and very well camouflaged. It was four or five feet from the path, sat very still on its nest. It clearly relies on its colouring to avoid detection as it looks like a piece of wood in the bracken. A fantastic find, especially after not seeing the Crested Tit, made even more so because of the bird’s Red Status on the RSPB website.
